Alliances battle to keep business travelers loyal

Asiana tops annual airline rankings

South Korean carrier Asiana has topped the 2010 airline rankings survey conducted by Skytrax.
Runner-up was Singapore Airlines, with Qatar third. The annual rankings reflect a 10-month long study taking into account almost 18 million air travellers from 100 nationalities.
The study ran from July 2009 to April 2010. Skytrax is an independent airline quality monitoring organisation.
AirAsia was named the world’s best low cost airline for the second year in a row.

16 April, 2010. Report: Continental, United in deal talks  NEW YORK – Shares of Continental Airlines and the parent of United Airlines rose in afternoon trading Thursday after The New York Times reported that the carriers are talking about combining and creating the world's largest carrier.
The newspaper's DealBook blog cited people briefed on the discussions, who said the talks were in early stages and could still collapse.
The news comes a week after reports that United and US Airways have been talking about combining. Analysts say a United-Continental combination makes more sense than United hooking up with US Airways because of Continental's strong international routes...Yahoo Travel News

Jan 24, 2010. Seats that let passengers lie down are coming to the economy cabin. Air New Zealand says it will introduce this year coach seats that recline into an almost-flat bed for customers willing to pay extra.The carrier will install the seats in the first 11 rows of the economy cabin for three Boeing 777 planes scheduled to start delivery in November. They'll fly on the airline's longest routes, such as Los Angeles-Auckland, New Zealand.Each of the seats is equipped with a footrest that can be lifted for a reclining position. Legroom also increases by an inch, to 33 inches.Individual travelers can buy the seats, but Air New Zealand has designed them chiefly for families or adults traveling together. Dec 19, 2009‎. British Airways is defying the aviation gloom to launch a luxury, all-business class transatlantic service to New York from London City Airport. The upmarket service is BA's first ever to New York from the Docklands airport. The maiden flight is due to leave at 12.50pm. BA will use two specially configured A318 aircraft and use the BA001 flight number made famous by Concorde.

 


 

Dec 19, 2009‎. US Airways has announced a long-overdue upgrade to its international business class product. The airline says that it will introduce fully lie-flat beds in business class cabins beginning in December. The so-called Envoy Suite will offer chairs that convert to beds that are 20.5 inches wide (plus five more inches with the armrests down) and 76 to 80 inches long. The chairs will be arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration and will be equipped with a standard power outlet, a USB port and 12-inch monitors.
